Marion Tech has a number of labs to help students get hands-on experience in science. As one woul
d expect, it can get a little messy. Whirlpool Corp. generously donated a new washer to assist with cleaning and sanitation.
“The Mathematics and Natural Sciences department at Marion Technical College greatly appreciate the recent donation from Whirlpool Corp. and an anonymous donor of a Whirlpool brand dishwasher,” said Tyler Maley, Director of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. “This dishwasher is used to wash science lab equipment used in our hands-on lab courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Microbiology, and Chemistry.”
Two donors came together to make this gift.
“Whirlpool Corp. provided us with a very generous discount on purchasing a new dishwasher and an anonymous donor came forward to pay the remaining balance. I am very grateful for the community donation that allows us to continue to help our students Get to Next,” Maley said.
Mike Stuckey, Director of the Marion Technical College Foundation, echoed his sentiments.
“We value our partnership with Whirlpool Corp. and the Marion community. The support truly makes a difference in the lives of our students. They are investing in our future!” Stuckey said.
Marion Tech and Whirlpool Corp. have worked together over the decades on many projects. Marion Tech has offered business classes at the Whirlpool plant for workers who are looking to advance. Tracy Shilling (pictured) is a manufacturing specialist at Whirlpool Corp.'s Marion Plant and an adjunct professor at Marion Tech. He graduated from Marion Tech with his associate degree in business before continuing his education to get his bachelor of science and master of arts degrees.
