Nursing Technology (RN)
Overview
The deadline for readmission to the nursing program for start of fall 2025 is March 31, 2025. Applications from qualified high school students will be accepted provided all the other requirements have been met and an official, interim high school transcript is on file in the MTC Office Student Records. Applications are accepted from June 1 to August 1 for the class entering in the spring.
About the program
Prepare men and women for challenging and rewarding careers as Registered Nurses who assist in the overall planning and providing of nursing care for patients and their families, as well as educating patients in health maintenance and restoration.
Program Format(s)
Students enrolled in this program will take traditional, 16-week classes each semester.
Degree Option
Two-year (5 semesters) full-time degree schedule of nursing, science, and general education courses; program must be completed in a maximum of five (5) years. MTC nursing students complete varied clinical experiences. Graduates are eligible to take the licensing examination of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
Dual Degree
One pathway to achieve the BSN is to declare a dual degree at Marion Technical College. The dual degree would be an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing and an Associate of Science. An advantage of the dual degree would be that the MTC student can take additional courses that are transferrable to the BSN.

Applications from qualified high school students will be accepted provided all the other requirements have been met and an official, interim high school transcript is on file in the MTC Office Student Records. Applications are accepted from June 1 to August 1 for the class entering in the spring.
PLEASE NOTE:
An acceptable Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI&I) report/FBI background check and drug screening are required in order to begin the clinical sequence.
Criminal Background Check
Nursing is a regulated profession. The training, licensure, and practice of nursing are subject to federal and state statutes, rules, and regulations. In addition, each hospital may have rules or policies. A student’s eligibility for admission or continuation in MTC’s Nursing program is subject to the requirements of, and compliance with, all applicable statutes, rules, regulations, or policies (including a physical exam). Prior to or during acceptance into the nursing program, training, licensure, or employment as a nurse, each individual will be subject to a background check including, but not limited to, an analysis of fingerprints and a review of prior criminal records. The submission of any false information to MTC or any federal/state agency shall be cause for immediate dismissal from the Nursing program. The Ohio Board of Nursing may deny admission to the National Council Licensing Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) based on a review by the Ohio Board of Nursing Compliance Unit.

Nursing Advanced Standing (LPN, Military Medic, and Paramedic) to RN Transition
This option prepares men and women for challenging and rewarding careers as Registered Nurses who assist in the overall planning and providing of nursing care for patients and their families, as well as educating patients in health maintenance and restoration.
Credit for Advanced Standing LPN, Paramedic, and Military Medic Training:
Upon application, students will receive credit for Fundamental Nursing courses after successful completion of the ATI exam. Students in the Advanced Standing to RN Option will take a transition advanced course to bridge the gap between knowledge gained from previous experience, skills, and abilities to the learning outcomes of the Marion Technical College Nursing Program.

Application Requirements - Limited Enrollment
- Completed MTC Application for Admission
- Applicants must have completed high school or obtained a GED before being enrolled in the first nursing technical course or have permission from program director and school guidance counselor to apply. An official copy of the applicant’s final high school transcript (or GED results) should be on file in the Office of the Registrar.
- ACT of 19 or higher or SAT equivalent, or TEAS, or multiple measure (completing English Comp 1, Statistics, and A&P 1). Requirement is waived for students with a BS or BA degree from a regionally accredited college.
- A 2.5 overall GPA is the minimum for acceptance.
- Successful completion of high school biology, chemistry, and algebra is required. (MTC offers courses to meet these requirements if not completed in high school.)
- Transfer students must qualify in accordance with current Nursing Department policies contact Cathy Crum, crumc@mtc.edu to complete the process.
- Complete a MTC Nursing (RN) Technology program application (this is a separate application from the Marion Technical College application.
- A mandatory nursing information session will need to be attended after acceptance. The dates will be listed in the student acceptance letters.
- All students will be required to successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screening prior to admission into the first Nursing technical course. Students will need to complete another criminal background check upon applying for their nursing boards in their last term of nursing school. Random drug screens are completed within the program. The prohibition of the use, distribution, or possession of medical marijuana also extends to marijuana in any form, including edibles, or CBD oils that contain more than 0.0% of THC.

- The student must be at least 18 years of age prior to the initiation of program clinical experiences or have permission from the program administrator and high school guidance counselor.
- Students must have a current STNA certification or have taken a nurse aide training course within the past 5 years. If a student's works in direct patient care such as a hospital care tech, a letter will need to be provided by the HR or manager of the applicant stating at least one year of experience in direct patient care and a job description and sent to the program administrator in place of taking the STNA course.
- Students need to complete their science sequence (A&P1, A&P 2, and Microbiology before entering NUR 2400).
